Stella's new spots

Girls on Film

Have you noticed the growing popularity of short films for fashion?
Designers are spreading their wings and collaborating with stylists, artists, and film makers alike in a new and now affordable medium for launching their ranges and establishing a stronger brand identity.
Consumers are increasingly turing to the web as a of source of direction and interaction. The need to spend precious dollars on advertising space no longer applies. Using the free medium of cyber space brands can direct that spending to develop more creative and engaging ways to communicate with their customers.

This season, Australian fashion labels such as Lover, Shakuhachi and new comer Emma Mulholland adopted the emotive medium of film to encapsulate the creative direction of their labels for the season.

Lover: A Dance for One
Emma Mullholland: Queen Aurelia
Shakuhachi

Collaboration across creative fields is becoming key to engage with customers on all new levels and personify a brand in a way product alone cannot. I think it is safe to say we can expect more fashion film projects to come.

Here are some of my favourites. Acne's Concrete Jungle was directed by Daniel Askill with creative direction from Michelle Jank. But be warned - the haunting beauty of this stop motion film can leave you feeling a little dizzy.

This quirky little thriller was produced for the launch of Lanvin's Collection for H&M.

Hello! Welcome to theory del moda.
This blog is basically my play station for pin pointing trends on the rise through images I have compiled from fashion, graphics, art, advertising… basically anything in popular culture.
No real mission statement as yet but I hope my little assortment of images will inspire you as much as me.
So to start us off:
Kaleidoscopes and The Art of Symmetry
Symmetry, it seems to be everywhere in design right now. Almost every album cover, event poster, Josh Goot print, or design line in Dion Lee’s dresses seem to have cottoned on to the beauty of symmetry. While I am a little late to jump on the wave of this design trend (its definitely reached it's 'tipping point') I still find its rise to fame intriuging.

First seen (in recent pop culture) in fashion prints for Alexander McQueen's Armadillo collection, it has since filtered its way down under. The sydney design set in particular have embraced the trend whole heartedly, seen in prints from Josh Goot and Something Else. One of my favorites is Jonathan Zawada's website for Tina Kavalis. You can click on the link below to check it out.

Inspired myself, I took a few images from my recent trip to New York and turned them into Kaleidoscope like prints. They still need a bit of finessing but its a good start....

Applied Arts

I could make a lame Trinny and Susannah joke and say this trend is perfect for those of you with a 'Vase' shaped body...but i wont.

Seen on the catwalk from innovators such as Mary Katrantzou and Romance Was Born these colourful prints are straight off the plate (or vase).
